As the research in sustainability and prefabrication reaching new heights, timber construction industry is now equipped to showcase the future of wooden -home construction in a systematic way.

Timber construction is rapidly gaining global recognition as one of the most effective approaches to sustainable building. With faster project delivery, extensive prefabrication, resource-efficient materials and digitally driven manufacturing processes, the sector is reshaping modern construction and driving innovation across the built environment.

Designed to present the entire timber construction ecosystem, LIGNA.Builds will demonstrate every stage of the wood-frame building process—from digital planning and engineering to industrial prefabrication and on-site assembly. Rather than focusing solely on individual products or machines, the showcase will highlight how integrated technologies work together to create efficient, high-performance timber construction solutions across the entire value chain.

So, do not forget to attend LIGNA in May 2027 at Hannover and experience the complete value chain of modern wood-frame construction – from design and planning to industrial prefabrication and the assembly of a real building on a live construction site. From smart factories and sustainable manufacturing to skilled craftsmanship and global collaboration, LIGNA continues to shape the future of woodworking.

The project is being organised in partnership with Holzbau.Tech, with scientific oversight provided by Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences.

LIGNA.Builds: Building the Future of the Global Woodworking Industry

5 days – 1 house – realized by holzbau.tech

LIGNA.Builds is a live construction site at LIGNA where a one-and-a-half- or two-story wood-frame home will be built over the course of the five-day trade show. Together with LIGNA.Builds Village and LIGNA.TruckStop, it will form the central hub for modern timber construction.

Stephanie Wagner, head of LIGNA at Deutsche Messe, said the idea emerged during the early planning stages for LIGNA 2027.

“We wanted to create something that every LIGNA exhibitor and visitor could relate to. It needed to have a tangible, highly visible connection to the industry while also leaving a lasting legacy,” she said. “That led to the idea of constructing a house live during the trade show, bringing together the expertise of multiple technology and material partners.”

“We are very pleased to be a project partner of LIGNA.Builds. The initiative impressively demonstrates the capabilities of modern timber construction today. It combines digital processes, industrial prefabrication, and skilled craftsmanship into a holistic experience that visitors can directly follow and experience on-site during LIGNA at the exhibition grounds,” says Prof. Andreas Heinzmann, Managing Director at holzbau.tech in Rosenheim.

LIGNA, the world’s leading trade fair for the woodworking and wood processing industries, brings together the technologies, machinery, materials, and expertise required for modern timber construction. In May 2027, the show introduces LIGNA.Builds that will serve as a bridge between mechanical engineering, industrial manufacturing, skilled trades, and the rapidly growing timber construction market, demonstrating how innovations in wood processing directly contribute to sustainable building projects.

Building together:

Key focus of LIGNA.Builds is to showcase the full value chain of wood-frame construction, and hence it brings the entire building process to life. From initial concept development – including the definition of structural elements and the selection of materials and components – to production planning and engineering, industrial prefabrication, and on-site assembly, visitors will experience firsthand how modern timber construction works in practice. The focus is not only on the machinery and technologies provided by exhibiting LIGNA participants, but above all on how they interact across the entire value chain.

The platform keeps the conversation going beyond the exhibition floor while reinforcing LIGNA’s role as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable growth.

Read more news on LIGNA here.

Read more news on woodworking and furniture events here.

Source: LIGNA

5 days – 1 house – realized by holzbau.tech

LIGNA.Builds is a live construction site at LIGNA where a one-and-a-half- or two-story wood-frame home will be built over the course of the five-day trade show.
