LIGNA.Builds is a live construction site<\/strong> at LIGNA where a one-and-a-half- or two-story wood-frame home will be built<\/strong> over the course of the five-day trade show. The project gives a behind-the-scenes look at processes that are normally seen only on construction sites or in manufacturing facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LIGNA.Builds brings together machinery, tools, software, engineered wood products, and construction processes in a real-world demonstration project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each phase of construction demonstrates how modern manufacturing, skilled craftsmanship, digitalization, and innovative materials all come together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From preparing the foundation slab to erecting the wood-frame structure, installing walls and ceilings, floors, and the roof \u2013 culminating in the topping-out ceremony \u2013 visitors experience every major stage of the construction process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Build the Future of Wood Construction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

LIGNA.Builds will take place during LIGNA 2027 in the southern section of the open-air site at the Hannover exhibition grounds. Together with LIGNA.Builds Village and LIGNA.TruckStop, it will form the central hub for modern timber construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephanie Wagner, head of LIGNA at Deutsche Messe, said the idea emerged during the early planning stages for LIGNA 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe wanted to create something that every LIGNA exhibitor and visitor could relate to. It needed to have a tangible, highly visible connection to the industry while also leaving a lasting legacy,\u201d she said. \u201cThat led to the idea of constructing a house live during the trade show, bringing together the expertise of multiple technology and material partners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LIGNA, the world\u2019s leading trade fair for the woodworking and wood processing industries, brings together the technologies, machinery, materials, and expertise required for modern timber construction. In May 2027, the show introduces LIGNA.Builds that will serve as a bridge between mechanical engineering, industrial manufacturing, skilled trades, and the rapidly growing timber construction market, demonstrating how innovations in wood processing directly contribute to sustainable building projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key focus of LIGNA.Builds is to showcase the full value chain of wood-frame construction, and hence it brings the entire building process to life.
