AkzoNobel is strengthening its commitment to coatings innovation with a new \u20ac7.5 million research laboratory at Sassenheim, in Netherlands. The lab is dedicated to advancing powder coatings technology and developing more sustainable solutions while maintaining its absolute commitment to coating innovation from the company\u2019s largest global R&D centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officially opened by Dutch Minister of Climate and Green Growth, Stientje van Veldhoven, the facility \u2013 primarily focused on powder coatings \u2013 will help to accelerate the development of more sustainable, solvent-free and energy-efficient coating solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve established a\u202fglobal reputation for pioneering product innovation and the new lab will be pivotal in ensuring that we continue to innovate with impact,\u201d said Frank Vergeer, R&D Director of AkzoNobel\u2019s Powder Coatings business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs well as strengthening our leadership in powder coating technologies, this investment will also expand the company\u2019s wider innovation capabilities in coating performance, application and advanced particle analysis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new lab will mainly focus on accelerating the development of next generation powder coatings \u2013 including lower temperature curing technologies that can further reduce energy use \u2013 as well as solutions that will support customer productivity improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In-depth research will also be carried out to identify new opportunities, such as helping to extend product lifetimes, and reduce maintenance and material use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By developing these solutions, AkzoNobel will enhance its ability to cut carbon emissions across the value chain. The company has already reduced CO\u2082\u202femissions in\u202fits\u202fown operations (Scopes 1 and 2,\u202fbaseline\u202f2018) by 50% \u2013 four years ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
