EcoDomo reimagines interior surfaces with their latest recycled-leather panels

Embracing sustainability as way forward, EcoDomo the maker of sustainable leather interior surfaces recently introduces their innovative and all new recycled-leather surface panel for responsible interior décor.

A material that brings the richness of leather to architectural surfaces while giving discarded leather a new life.

EcoDomo is addressing that question with its Recycled Leather Veneer (RLV™)—a surface material that transforms recycled leather into a versatile finish for furniture, cabinetry and architectural interiors.

Designed as an alternative to traditional wood veneer, EcoDomo’s recycled leather veneer is made from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather that is pulverised, blended with natural latex and recycled into veneer sheets. The resulting material is approximately 0.8 mm thick and can be supplied in sheets up to 48 × 96 inches, with custom sizes available up to 48 × 144 inches.

According to the company, this new panel gives fabricators a leather-look, leather-feel surface that works with the same equipment, adhesives, and edgebanding processes already in use on standard panel lines.

“Universal acceptance was the whole design goal,” said Bernice Lord, CEO of EcoDomo. “Fabricators shouldn’t have to retool their shop to specify a better material. Our recycled-leather panel drops into the same production line as melamine, but gives designers a genuinely sustainable, tactile leather surface instead.”

The new panel pairs with EcoDomo’s Recycled Leather Veneer (RLV) Color-Matched Edgeband to complete exposed edges in a seamless, fully coordinated leather finish.

“Having a color-matched edgeband and a panel that behaves like the materials I already run means I don’t have to compromise on sustainability or on workflow,” said Wendy Scott, principal at Timeless Closets & Cabinetry. “It’s a genuine drop-in upgrade.”

Leather, reworked as a surface

Rather than treating leather purely as an upholstery material, EcoDomo positions RLV™ as a universal surfacing solution. The veneer can be laminated onto a variety of substrates and used across both horizontal and vertical applications.

Its applications range from doors, kitchen and closet cabinetry to countertops, wall panels, shelving, columns, stair risers and ceiling panels. This opens up opportunities for designers to introduce the tactile character of leather into spaces where wood veneer or other decorative surfaces would traditionally be specified.

The material is available in an extensive selection of colours and textures, including finishes inspired by Buffalo, Shagreen, Walrus and Crocodile surfaces. From understated neutrals to deeper contemporary tones, the collection is designed to offer designers considerable freedom in developing coordinated interior schemes.

Built for demanding interiors

Sustainability is only part of the proposition. EcoDomo has developed a protective resin top coat that provides resistance to staining, wear and water, making the material suitable for applications that demand greater durability than conventional decorative leather surfaces.

The company’s technical information also lists resistance testing against chemicals including acetic acid, isopropyl alcohol, ammonia, bleach and olive oil, with no change reported after the specified 24-hour surface-attack test. The material has also passed the ISO 11925 single-flame-source test.

What makes EcoDomo’s proposition particularly relevant to today’s interiors is the way it combines material recovery with design flexibility. Instead of presenting recycled material as a compromise, RLV™ is positioned as a premium decorative surface in its own right.
