i4F and Unilin Technologies enters into non-assert agreement on water-repellent coating patents
i4F and Unilin Technologies recently announced the implementation of a non-assert agreement on their water-repellent coating patents for laminate and wood flooring.
i4F, a group of companies providing patents and technologies to the global flooring industry, and Unilin Technologies today announced the implementation of a non-assert agreement on their water-repellent coating patents for laminate and wood flooring.
Both technology licensing companies are offering a different coating technology designed to enhance the water-repellent performance of wood-based flooring products. i4F offers its technology under the AquaProtect brand. Unilin’s technology is marketed under the Unicoat brand.
The agreement means that i4F AquaProtect licensees benefit from additional protection on Unilin’s patent portfolio, and enables flooring manufacturers to gain access to multiple water-repellent edge-coating technologies.

Unilin Technologies’s Unicoat is a patented edge-coating technology that delivers superior water-repellent protection. Applied during the production process, it prevents liquids from seeping through the joints and protects the coreboard from long-term water damage. The coating serves as a sealed barrier between the floor boards, eliminating the risk of water infiltration, commonly associated issues such as swelling and mold.
Unicoat significantly enhances the waterproof performance of flooring. It not only passes the industry-standard NALFA test, but also performs exceptionally well in more demanding wet-cleaning tests. Unicoat will make floors last longer, even under intensive use.
